ITF Wheelchair Catalonia Open at Emilio Sanchez Academy.

The ITF Wheelchair Catalonia Open Tournament. II Emilio Sánchez Vicario Foundation. I Fundació Tennis Catalá will be held from June 28th to July 2nd at the Emilio Sánchez Academy, located in El Prat de Llobregat, and will have individual and double categories, both in the men's and women's draw, as well as Quad category. The tournament will be Grade 2.

The presentation ceremony, coinciding with the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell Conde de Godó Trophy Tournament (won in 1991 by Emilio Sánchez Vicario, Honorary President of the Foundation that bears his name), was attended by Aleix Villatoro, Director Consell Catalá de l'Esport; Jordi Tamayo, President of the Catalan Tennis Federation; Marisa Sánchez Vicario, President of the Emilio Sánchez Vicario Foundation; Débora Garcia Barrios, Deputy Mayor for Welfare and Health of the City Council of El Prat de Llobregat.

Also in attendance on behalf of the players were Martín de la Puente, number one in the national ranking and TOP TEN in the world ranking; the historic and five-time Paralympic Catalan player, Quico Tur and Julian Montero, an outstanding quad player.

This Catalonia Open, the 2nd Emilio Sanchez Vicario Foundation Tournament and the 1st Catalan Tennis Foundation Tournament, symbolizes in a single event the union of sport, competition and solidarity, thus raising awareness of the importance of adapted sport.

It also marks the return of an ITF wheelchair tournament to the Emilio Sánchez Academy, as it previously hosted a first edition in 2012, which was a qualifier for the London Paralympic Games in the same year.
